Northeast Kids Count operates daily from 2:00 to 5:30pm. Our program follows the Ithaca City School District academic calendar. We are open on select vacation and/or conference days for a 'day camp' style full-day program. Our daily schedule includes numerous activities and an after school snack.
After-School Daily Schedule
2:10 - 3:15pm
Children check in with their counselor in the Northeast cafeteria. A light snack will be available for children as they arrive.
Children may choose from a variety of activities held in the cafeteria, library, gymnasium, or outside. We offer a homework club for 3rd - 5th graders in the library daily. The gym is open during this time for K-2nd grade students.
3:15 - 3:45pm
After School Snack
3:45 - 4:45pm
A family-style snack is served in the cafeteria.
Similar to 'First Choice' although the age groups switch allowing a Homework Club for younger students and gym access for older students. Children of various ages can finish activities and projects in the cafeteria.
4:45 - 5:30pm
End of Program
All children may switch freely between program areas. Clean up begins at 5:15pm and all students and staff are responsible for helping. Child pick up occurs.
Program is closed.
Registration occurs annually in March and April. During this registration period, spaces for the next academic year will be awarded in order of the following priority:
1) Students who were enrolled in the immediately preceding academic year ("returning students").
2) Family members of returning students. "Family member" is defined as (i) a sibling of a returning student; or (ii) a minor who resides in the same household as a returning student and for whom there is on record with the Ithaca City School District (ICSD) a validly signed "Designation of Person in Parental Relation".
3) Children of Northeast Kids Count staff.
4) Children of Northeast Elementary School staff.
5) All others on the wait list according to wait list application date.
Registration is now closed. To express interest, families can join our waitlist and be contacted when spots become available.
Daily Snack Information
Kids Count participates in New York State's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). By recording the number of meals served, we receive a monthly reimbursement for the snacks provided. This helps to keep our costs lower and enables us to offer more affordable child care.
The food program requires families to sign a form every year stating that their child attends Kids Count. There is an optional space to indicate family income. When families who are deemed "low income", according to the state's guidelines, supply their family income information, the state reimburses Kids Count at a higher rate than if no income amount was reported. Irrespective of your family's income, reporting your income on the food program form is optional. Kids Count will be reimbursed a small amount for every student who returns the form, regardless of income.
Kids Count does not limit the number of servings per child. All left over food must be thrown out so children are permitted to have seconds. If you prefer your child have only a set amount of food in order to leave room for dinner at home or otherwise, please speak to your child about this. We do regulate portion size per the USDA and any serving after a first serving will be portion sized or less.
